You don't have to be an America Online member to experience the immediate cross-Internet communication made possible by AOL Instant Messenger. This program allows Internet users to communicate via private, personalized text messages, and indicates when friends, family members, and business colleagues are online. AOL Instant Messenger combines AOL's Buddy List and Instant Message features, enabling users to send and respond to messages immediately. Other features include a user directory and buddy chat capabilities, personalized news, and a Neighborhood Watch feature so you can disconnect when crank chatters contact you. You also can send personalized greetings from your Buddy List, forward a copy of your Buddy List to a friend, and add your own comments to an entry on your Buddy List.

AIM Encryption
AIM Security using SSL Certificates makes your conversation appear much like trash to anyone analyzing what you type much like "Sw43jg73js7HSkg8Skeq3k65" instead of "Hello Friend". This certificate encodes the message so only the sender and the receiver can read the message. But still please use common sense and don't send credit card numbers, etc. over IM, this should only make you about " this " much safer on the internet, and make you feel cool having a padlock next to your name.

Q. I use the new AIM Triton v1.0+ I don't see any place for security?
A. AIM Triton does not currently support encrypting conversations, download AIM v5.9 from AOL here.
